POhWER has worked in RBKC since 2006. Last year we provided advocacy support to over 200 RBKC residents.

We offer the following services in Kensington and Chelsea:

  • Relevant Person’s Paid Representative (RPPR), is a service for those people (or Relevant Person) whom have been legally deprived of their liberty under the safeguards (DoLS) set out in Mental Capacity Act 2005, and have no family or friend whom can appropriately act as their representative. The role of the RPPR is to assist the Relevant Person to understand and execute their rights which includes calling a review of the DoL, or challenging the DoL or elements of it by accessing the Court of Protection, or by exercising them of behalf of the Relevant Person.
  • Community Advocacy service for residents aged 18 and over with Physical and or Sensory Disabilities, or a long term physical illness or condition, as well as Community Advocacy for anyone aged over 50. We can support eligible clients with issues such as liaising with Social Services, complaints, safeguarding, supporting personalisation, and also statutory advocacy under the Care Act where this is applicable for eligible clients.

Debbie's Story

elderly lady looking down thoughtfully.

Debbie was unhappy with her social worker, whom she felt was abrupt and did not listen to her. Then after conducting a care assessment, she was informed that her care package would be cut. Although she complained about the social worker’s attitude and the reduction in care hours allocated, she got nowhere. This left her feeling frustrated and disempowered. Although she is normally a confident woman who can speak up for herself, she realised that she needed advocacy support to enable her to get her point across without feeling as if she was being ignored. She then contacted POhWER.
