POhWER provides this service in partnership with Catalyst 4 Change and Sandwell African Caribbean Mental Health Foundation.  Advocates for Change is a Culturally Appropriate Advocacy Service for those of African Caribbean and other minoritised ethnic heritage, experiencing issues related to their cultural needs not being met or experiences of discrimination within and following discharge from in-patient mental health settings in the Birmingham and Solihull area.  

Our services include:

  • Independent Advocacy for those receiving in-patient mental health care within Birmingham and Solihull NHS Mental Health Trust settings
  • Those recently discharged from mental health settings and seeking support to access community based mental health services
  • Lived experience peer support, consultation and coproduction groups, and carers groups
