About the role:

We have a current vacancy for a Secure & Complex Services Advocate to join our team working on a contract based in Kemple View, Blackburn working 35 hours a week.

You will be supporting a wide range of vulnerable people with sometimes profound and multiple needs, so ideally you will have experience of this type of work, along with a good working knowledge of voluntary organisations.


Job Purpose:

Advocates working in secure settings will need the following skills, experience and knowledge as indicated by the post details:

  • Must be willing and able to work and be based on secure units.
  • Ideally have knowledge and experience of working with patients detained under the MH Act
  • Have the ability to cope well with pressure and adversity in challenging environments
  • Knowledge and understanding of Risk management in secure environments
  • Experience of/ ability to work with people with profound needs or very challenging/disturbed behaviour
  • Ideally have knowledge of Non-Instructed Advocacy



Principle Accountabilities:

  • To provide client-led, issue based advocacy services according to the service remit, code
  • of practice and performance standards required.
  • To maintain accurate and appropriate records and data for the services provided- comply
  • with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
  • To participate in service development and stakeholder relationships as required.
  • To act on behalf of clients, empowering clients, following their instructions, taking action
  • as directed by the client and consistent with good practice and the legislation.
  • To communicate with individuals and other agencies, representing the clients’ views,
  • while keeping the client informed of progress of their issue


You will be a confident positive team player, able to work in partnership with clients and professionals, gaining an understanding of their issues by listening, exploring options and taking action as directed by them. Our ideal candidate will have worked in advocacy, Information and advice or similar role before, ideally in a health, social care or voluntary setting and will have experience of working with vulnerable adults.

You will need to have a flexible attitude and must be comfortable handling highly sensitive information, and in seeking support and supervision. Strong communication skills and time management skills will be required and you will need to be computer literate.
