About the role: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term full time Paid Relevant Person’s Representatives to join our West Midlands team until March 2018. About you: You will be supporting a wide range of vulnerable people often with profound or complex needs, including people who have a learning disability, dementia, other mental health need or acquired brain injury in all matters relating to the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). In the role of Paid Representative you will be maintaining contact with relevant persons in a range of settings, north Leicestershire supporting them to understand the DoLS as it affects them and representing their wishes, views and feelings and advocating for their rights effectively and professionally. Our ideal candidate will have worked in advocacy, information and advice or a similar role before and have either come from a health and social care background or have a strong understanding of the sector and will have a good working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the DoLS framework. Ideally, you will have excellent experience supporting and promoting the rights of people who face significant challenges in being heard and have the skills to respond proactively to and engage with people with profound or complex needs, including responding appropriately to any communication needs or possible safeguarding concerns. Strong communication skills, time management skills and the ability to keep accurate and up to date records will be required and you will need to be computer literate The person we appoint to the role will be confident, resourceful and motivated team player, able to work well alone as well as part of a wider team, in partnership with clients and professionals, understanding and acting on client views, wishes and feelings by listening and exploring options or doing so through non-instructed work. Those in the Paid Representative role will have a commitment to protecting the rights of some of the most vulnerable people in society through effective representation and so will have a strong commitment to their own professional development, keeping up to date with relevant legislation, case law and external and internal best practice as well as a commitment to the development of the service.
