POhWER Local Group explain what POhWER means to them: About us News Our huge awareness event, Shout About It, takes place for first time since the pandemic We’re so pleased that we could hold our annual Shout About It event in our HQ hometown of Stevenage earlier this month. Sixty-five charities, groups, and organisations from across Hertfordshire came together to tell people about the services they offer the disabled, those with an illness, those who are socially excluded or face other challenges. Those there included Citizens Advice Stevenage, Club Foundation Stevenage, and Hertfordshire Independent Living Service. Each charity, group or organisation had a stall and were met with a ‘steady stream’ of visitors throughout the day. Stevenage Mayor, Councillor Margaret Notley, was in attendance as were the Purple All Stars group, who gave some fantastic performances. It was the first time in three years the event had been held; it was postponed in 2020 and 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Daniel Anderson, POhWER’s Associate Director, said: “It’s so important to be promoting the services on offer in Stevenage and Hertfordshire that will help those facing challenges in our society. “This year’s Shout About It event was a huge success with a steady stream of visitors filling the Ibis Forum Conference and Banqueting Suite to find out more information from dozens of local groups and organisations. “We are so thrilled that the local Stevenage mayor could also attend, and know many visitors were buoyed by her appearance; chatting to her and finding out more about her important role.” He added: “It’s been three years since we last met for Shout About It, so we know we had a challenge on our hands to make our event better than it has been before. “We’re so proud of what we produced and know many delegates went away with new information and the knowledge of the help they, or someone they know, could receive going forward in the local area.” Check out some of the people who attended the Shout About It event with our picture collage below.
