Hats of POhWER Fundraising Appeal

Get involved with our Hats of POhWER Fundraising campaign!

Why hats?

Hats of POhWER logoHats throughout history have represented authority, independence and power. POhWER through its’ work helps people regain their personal independence, authority and power through advocacy when their rights are not upheld in society.

Because a hat covers the head, the hat is said to symbolise thought and ideas; Therefore, if it is changed, an opinion is changed. Across the world, different hats signify different orders within the social hierarchy. POhWER seeks to address and change attitudes and opinions towards socially excluded, marginalised and vulnerable people.

We will be wearing different hats throughout the fundraising campaign to raise awareness of POhWER’s advocacy work and the barriers people face to having their voices heard. We’d love for you to join in.

Get involved and start planning

This is a great opportunity to join in the fun, raising funds and awareness of POhWER's advocacy work. Here are four simple ways you can get involved with the Hats of POhWER appeal:

  1. Woman wearing a large yellow spotted bow hat

Share a selfie on social media wearing a POhWER-ful hat to raise awareness of the importance of advocacy. Use the hashtag #HatsofPOhWER

  2. Host a virtual hat-themed event such as a dinner party or quiz and invite family and friends. Dress code: wear your best hat. Post a group picture on social media #HatsofPOhWER and donate to us through our Hats of POhWER Just Giving page

  3. Hold a wear a hat to work or school day and charge a pound for people to wear their best hat. Donate the proceeds raised to POhWER

  4. If you are all working from home why not host a video call with your colleagues instead? You can all wear different hats in solidarity with POhWER’s work and post a picture on social media. #HatsofPOhWER

How your donations can help

We want to raise £5000.

Your money can help us to continue and further develop our Community Advocacy Projects which support people who fall outside the eligibility criteria for statutory advocacy services.

Many Local Councils have stopped funding Community Advocacy Services due to budget cuts. We still want to be able to provide these services and ensure that advocacy is accessible to all people. Community Advocacy enables us to deliver more comprehensive holistic support which is not restricted by eligibility criteria or funding constraints.

People who are in a situation requiring support may find it difficult to put their views across or feel they aren’t being listened to. Our community advocates can help.

Community Advocacy can be provided to service users one to one or in a group setting. Community Advocacy groups allow people to feel part of a community and to support each other as peers.

How to make a donation

You can raise funds or donate for our Hats of POhWER appeal by one of the following ways:

  1. Donate via our Hats of POhWER JustGiving page
  2. Donate via our website
  3. Donate via the donate button on our Facebook Page
  4. Post cheque - download our donation form
