About us: Giving people a voice – and making sure it’s heard – is something POhWER does every day. We’re all about promoting equality, challenging unfairness and giving disadvantaged and vulnerable people access to high quality information, advice and advocacy services. POhWER is a registered charity that provides a range of services across England.

About the role: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Community Advocate, delivering advocacy as part of the Care Act 2014, to join our East Midlands team. The role will be covering Leicester City with frequent travel across the contract area.

You will be supporting a wide range of vulnerable people with sometimes profound and multiple needs, so ideally you will have experience of this type of work, along with a good working knowledge of public and voluntary organisations. You will be supporting clients experiencing substantial difficulty with being involved in a range of processes under the Care Act including assessments, reviews and safeguarding. Your role will be to ensure clients are placed at the centre of these processes, their voices heard, and their views and interests fully represented.

About you: You will be a confident positive team player, able to work in partnership with clients and professionals, gaining an understanding of their issues by listening, exploring options and taking action as directed by them. You will feel confident in being able to understand and communicate relevant processes under the Care Act to a range of clients, as well as providing information on their rights and outlining the roles and duties of relevant professionals. Our ideal candidate will have worked in advocacy, information and advice or a similar role before, ideally in a health, social care or voluntary setting and will have experience and passion for working with vulnerable adults with a range of social care needs. Ideally, you will have a good understanding of the legislative framework for adult social care, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and be familiar and confident interacting with the health and social care sector.

You will need to have a flexible attitude and must be comfortable handling highly sensitive information, and in seeking support and supervision. Strong communication skills and time management skills will be required and you will need to be computer literate. As this will be a busy role, working across Leicester City, candidates must be within reasonable commutable distance to the contract area and have access to independent transport.

We apologise in advance, that if you do not hear back from us within two weeks of the closing date then please presume that you have been unsuccessful.

There are also possible volunteering opportunities available within POhWER across the whole of England, to get more information on these opportunities please visit
