POhWER is Recruiting a Marketing Trustee to volunteer for three and a half hours a month.

Below are the experience and qualities that the Board seeks in its Trustees. Candidates must meet all the essential criteria.

 Essential criteria 

Skills, Experience and Knowledge:

Experienced in strategic planning and decision-making

Experience of working as an effective Senior team member, e.g. of a Board of Directors/Trustees or Management Committee.

Understands of the role of a trustee and the role of governance in organisations like POhWER

Abilities

Works effectively as a member of a team with other trustees and the Executive Team.

Communicates effectively at all levels.

Thinks creatively and objectively.

Actively participates in meetings, challenging constructively whilst respecting the views and opinions of others.

Understands written and financial reports and to ask appropriate questions as required.

Makes balanced and informed decisions and judgements, thinks strategically balancing needs, risks and constraints.

Accepts accountability - understands and accepts the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of a Trustee

Understands when Conflicts of Interest may prevent them participating in decisions or discussion.

 Personal Qualities

Integrity, common sense, good judgement, honesty, openness and a strong sense of public duty

 High standards of corporate and personal conduct.

 Commitment to the aims, values and mission of POhWER

 Committed to working effectively and respectfully with other board members

 Specific Skills and Experience FOR THE TWO CURRENT VACANCIES

EITHER

Trustee with marketing expertise additional requirement:

A proven track record of devising successful marketing strategies or campaigns for a comparable size organization(s) in the not-for-profit, public or private sector.OR

Trustee Service User/ member additional requirement:

 Experience as a service user and/or POhWER member. A service user is defined as a person who uses or has used services specifically provided for persons with learning difficulties, physical disability, sensory impairment or mental health issues or a carer supporting a service user;

 Desirable criteria

Financial management skills - able to interpret and understand budgets, accounts and other financial reports

Experience/knowledge of the issues concerning the needs of people who use public /health services and who may have a disability

Ability to act as an ambassador for POhWER at formal and informal meeting and events.

Applicants to have a proven track record of devising successful marketing strategies or campaigns for a comparable size organisation(s) in the not-for-profit, public or private sector.

Applicants to demonstrate a proven track record of representing / championing members or service users at senior management or board level. Trustees must undertake an enhanced DBS check and satisfy the HMRC “fit and proper person” test and to declare any conflicts of interest including any other Directorships or Trustee positionsTrustees must subscribe to POhWER’s Values and Code of Conduct which reflects the seven principles of public life.Trustees must commit to attending at least four Board meetings per year, one annual board business planning event and be available to attend sub committee meetings and the POhWER AGM as required. POhWER’s AGM is a day long event held in November. Trustees will be provided with an induction.

 Other conditions of appointment
