Steering Group meetings will be virtual meetings

This is to aid Steering Group members’ time constraints and work obligations – by offering an online, virtual meeting setting, each member can allow time to attend meetings without additional travel time impacting on work schedules.

This may change in the future subject to members’ agreement in having face to face meetings

NNS Steering Groups - Introduction

Neighbourhood Network Scheme Steering Groups are an important element of the implementation and delivery of Neighbourhood Network Schemes across the city and the broader focus on community social work practice by Birmingham City Council’s Adult Social Care Directorate.  They will provide a structured partnership environment through which stakeholders can coordinate activity which is relevant to prevention and early intervention, concerning older people, as well as use their insight, experience and assets to direct and influence the delivery of Neighbourhood Network Schemes in each Constituency.

The purpose and role of the Hodge Hill NNS Steering Group

The Steering Group will provide a Hodge Hill Constituency based partnership group through which stakeholders in the statutory, voluntary and community sectors, as well as citizens, can actively participate in the development and delivery of the Hodge Hill Neighbourhood Network Scheme, as partners. 

Their principal focus will be on the development of effective working relationships and partnerships between stakeholders which are interested in prevention and early intervention activity concerning older people.

The role of the Steering Group is to advise on the development and co-ordination of improving existing community assets and their current or potential service users. This may be by advising on appropriate support for community groups or organisations to build their capacity and community offer through training and investment.

Additionally this role will advise and guide on any gaps in community assets across all wards of Hodge Hill in the NNS research activities conducted by POhWER and to act as a ‘critical friend’.

In practice the Steering Group will not explicitly have any decision-making powers or responsibilities.  However, they will have a critical role in delivering the contracted outcomes required of POhWER as the NNS Lead Facilitator.

The Steering Group will also ensure that the local Neighbourhood Network Scheme is achieving the outcomes, commissioned through POhWER as a Lead Facilitator organisation.  This also extends to directing and influencing the delivery of NNS activity, which connects to other relevant initiatives and projects in the Hodge Hill constituency;

• Better partnership working across the Council and NHS
• Better cross-sector partnership working between the statutory, voluntary, community and social enterprise sectors
• Embedding of a culture which focuses on and supports the strengths, assets and positive outcomes for citizens
