To commemorate ‘World Mental Health Day’, POhWER Milton Keynes Community Development Volunteer Shanon Austin facilitated a Film & Art event at the Gallery MK with the theme - “To eradicate the Stigma of Mental Health”.

Mayor & Mayoress of Milton Keynes opened the event and his speech was enthusiastically supportive toward Mental Heallth & he proffered his assistance going forward with all the MH awareness events we are currently working on.

The usual capacity of the Gallery film events is 75 seats - we had 119 bookings! We managed to squeeze in 20 more seats, and were thankful for the staircase as it was well used by those who were happy to use same rather than be turned away. All in all the event was a huge success.

The evening’s live music was provided by Paul Wood & Mel, both service users of Rethink’s drop in group.

Our feed back forms had wonderful & encouraging comments about the evening and we have had 10 people who want to engage with us to assist with the 2017 event.

Shanon says “At the close of the evening I had two ladies 'waving collection buckets' as folks were wondering off & apart from my donation from the unexpected sale of my exhibition painting, we collected an additional £58-00!

I am looking forward to working again with the Gallery MK on the 2017 World Mental Health Day (WMHD) event on 10-10-17.”
