This Halloween, Steph Bullock, our Fundraising Officer took to the streets and canals of Birmingham to raise money and awareness for POhWER. She walked from the Bullring, through the City Centre and then along the canals to Bourneville Train Station. She completed this 5.5 mile walk in an inflatable dinosaur costume accompanied by Ben, dressed as Richard Attenborough’s character from Jurassic Park. The walk was a huge success, as it bought a lot of smiles and laughter from the public and because of POhWER merchandise and flyers, it also raised awareness too.

Disaster struck whilst the walk was in full swing! The batteries for the fan, which were keeping the costume inflated were beginning to run low! But thanks to a very friendly plumber, who had the tools to undo the battery pack, the batteries were replaced and the walk continued. Shortly after this, a helicopter began to hover over our POhWER dinosaur and follow her on her walk, it seems that the costume had rounded up a fair bit of attention.

“This was such a fun day, and it was so great talking to people about POhWER whilst out and about. One of the highlights was being approached by a lady who suffers with Bipolar and had heard of our services. She told us how great POhWER is and how it helps people just like her. By doing this event, I hope I have shown people that you can have lots of fun whilst fundraising, and there are so many different ways you can help raise money.”

Steph raised over £400 for this event, and also held a raffle for a Family Ticket to Cadbury World which raised an additional £100.
