About us News Dr Melrose Stewart MBE becomes new POhWER Patron It is with great joy that we welcome POhWER’s newest patron – Dr Melrose Stewart MBE. Mel is a Chartered Physiotherapist and Honorary Lecturer at the University of Birmingham. She is known for her focus on health promotion and challenging discriminatory practices especially racism and ageism. A significant portion of Mel’s voluntary work is focused on being an ambassador for the disenfranchised and underserved groups within society. When asked about her new role Mel said "I believe my work as an educator,Chartered Physiotherapist, member of Her Majesty’s Judiciary, and campaigner for equality of health and wellbeing aligns with the broad spectrum, aims and ethos of POhWER’s mission. Empowering people, giving voice to the disadvantaged and disenfranchised and improving lives is wholly consistent with the emphasis in the contributions I would like to make." We can’t wait to work closely with Melrose. You can find out more about her on our patrons page.
