At POhWER we are concerned that since the Covid-19 outbreak we have identified multiple examples of Do not Resuscitate (DNAR) orders being inappropriately used and blanket DNARs being applied. We have been challenging this on an individual basis but are also campaigning more widely to raise awareness about this issue to ensure that vulnerable people are effectively safeguarded.

An article was featured in the Sussex Express and shows how we have been tackling this issue in East Sussex, where we deliver a range of advocacy services including Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy and Relevant Person’s Paid Representatives: Click here to read the full article on the Sussex Express Website.

We are offering support to care homes to challenge blanket DNARs and have developed tools to assist care homes and professionals which can be found on our Guidance about advocacy during Coronavirus page.
