Responding to the government’s ideas about public services
The Government wants to change the way public services work. Public services include services like adult social care, healthcare, education, housing, benefits, child and family services, libraries and the police.
The Government has set out its ideas in a White Paper called Open Public Services.
You can find this at Cabinet office
People can give their ideas individually or through an organisation – and there are details about how to do this on the website.
Many of the people we work with have told us that they would like to be able to respond to Government documents that contain ideas that affect their lives. Sometimes, however, they find it difficult to do so. Recently we supported over 700 people to respond to the Government’s ideas on the NHS by using a mixture of questionnaires and workshops. This was really successful and we were listened to.
Open Public Services White Paper could affect a lot of POhWER members, and because of that, we have decided to do the same thing again.
There is no easy read version of the White Paper – and it is quite complicated. We have drawn up a straightforward summary and this is available here
. We hope this will be helpful to you.
If you want to give feedback you can do this directly through the open public services website or by using our questionnaire
If you need help with the questionnaire please contact us on 0300 456 2362.
Our response to the Government will be on our website after 30 September which is the closing date for comments.
