NHS plans revolution in care for children

John Reid, the health secretary, promised that children would no longer be treated as small adults, given inappropriate medicines in reduced doses, or trailed by anxious parents between services that dodged responsibility for conditions such as autism.
Instead, the NHS would offer a child-centred service, tailored to individual needs. Mr Reid said there would be more treatment at home for children and young people with complex health needs, better speech and language therapy, and earlier diagnosis and treatment of autism and diabetes.
