Candidate for post of Care Quality Commission chair announced

Dame Jo Williams, currently interim CQC chair has emerged as the government's candidate for the permanent post.

Before she can be formally appointed she must be scrutinised by the health select committee, which will assess her suitability for the post.

Health secretary Andrew Lansley will then consider the committee’s conclusions before deciding whether or not to proceed with the appointment.
