Independent Person Advocacy (IPA)
Independent Person Advocates (IPA’s) work with people with learning disabilities who do not use language to communicate. ![]()
IPA’s will go and meet the person.
![]()
IPA’s will watch the person to learn more about them.
IPA’s will then talk to the person’s family and people who live and work with them.![]()
IPA’s are independent. This means that they are only working for the person with learning disabilities.
An Example of IPA work:
A client did not want to go to a day centre.![]()
The IPA went to see them at the day centre and at some other places.![]()
This helped the IPA to see where the client liked to be and what they wanted to do.![]()
The IPA talked to the staff and told them what they thought.
